Balthasar Gelt, Supreme Patriarch of the esteemed Colleges of Magic, has been summoned to Talabecland to answer the Ogre threat in the province. However, hungry Ogres are not the only point of interest for Balthasar Gelt, as there are signs of Chaos and Vampiric corruption in the surrounding lands.
The Supreme Patriarch must further the research of the Colleges of Magic, using its powers to cleanse all corruption from the Imperial provinces, furthering the Empire’s authority and leading the Golden Order to campaign victory!
HSP – Gelt in the Empire is a new entry in the Herald’s Start Positions series. While being an exciting, immediate start position for Gelt in the middle of the Empire beset by its numerous enemies, it offers a very valuable ally to Reikland, Wissenland and the Ice Court, in an area usually quickly overrun by Festus the Leechlord. By keeping Festus busy, Gelt provides time for Karl Franz and Elspeth to deal with other enemies of the Empire.
The Treehammer Ogres have ventured across large swathes of Talabecland looking for meat and loot. With Talabecland’s Elector Count on the run after Talabheim fell to the Ogre hordes, the Emperor, Karl Franz, summoned Balthasar Gelt to deal with this issue, being – temporarily – given control of Talabecland’s remaining Imperial settlements.
If the Emperor gets to deal with Talabecland’s problems on his own, he has the chance to reinstate Talabecland’s recognised Elector Count, thus renewing the Imperial Province of Talabecland, and it’s associated faction.
However, that is not a likely chain of events, as surely Balthasar Gelt will do his best to expand the borders of his domain into the lands he purges of corruption, not for his own selfish studies, but for the good of the Empire!
As Karl Franz, you have the chance to confederate Gelt’s faction without taking the Empire politics system into consideration. After all, he was sent to Talabecland on your command!
The main changes are the following:
- The Golden Order has been moved to Talabecland, which had been largely taken over by the Treehammers Ogre faction, while the Golden Order gained its remaining settlement(s);
- all diplomacy involving Gelt in Cathay has been annuled as much as possible for a lua script mod;
- the Gelt in Cathay script has been disabled.
This mod is fully compatible with Mixu’s Unlocker and Immortal Empires Expanded. It was not developed keeping any Empire faction mods in mind.
Herald’s Start Positions mod series should work with mods like SFO: Grimhammer III, which rebalance different aspects of the game, but generally do not touch the start positions of the factions.
I recommend using this mod alongside other Herald’s Start Positions mods, and my other mods, as they are all being developed in conjunction.
Credits go to Porkenstein and Swissbob for the script framework which I’m using across my start position lua script mods, and to nopeace.net for the maps I used to show the territorial changes. I’d also like to thank Rhox, Drazhir and Acephelos for helping me out with some details along the way.
